Programming Your 2006 Honda Key Fob: A Simple Guide

Lost your key fob or need to program a new remote for your 2006 Honda? Don’t worry, programming your 2006 Honda Key Fob at home is straightforward. This guide provides simple, step-by-step instructions to get your remote working again.

Step-by-Step Programming Instructions

Before you begin, ensure you have all the remotes you wish to program for your vehicle and that all doors and the trunk are securely closed. You will only need one remote to initiate programming mode, but all remotes must be programmed in the same session. Each step must be completed within 5 seconds.

  1. Get into your 2006 Honda and close all doors and the trunk tightly.
  2. Insert your key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position (position “II” on the ignition bezel), so the dashboard lights illuminate. Within 5 seconds, press the “Lock” button on one of your remotes for about a second, then release.
  3. Turn the ignition key to the “OFF” position (position “I” on the ignition bezel) – the dashboard lights will turn off.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 three more times (for a total of four times). Ensure each step is completed within 5 seconds of the previous one.
  5. On the fourth turn of the key to the “ON” position, press the lock button on one remote. You should hear the door locks cycle (a “clunk” sound). The locks will not actually lock or unlock at this point, they will just make a noise indicating the system has entered programming mode. Do not turn the key off.
  6. Within 5 seconds of entering programming mode, and within 5 seconds of each other, press the lock button on each remote you are programming for approximately one second and release. This step must be completed within 10 seconds. Each time you press a remote button, the locks should cycle again. You can program up to three remotes.
  7. Turn the ignition completely off and remove the key. Exit your Honda and close the door.

Your 2006 Honda key fob should now be programmed and functional. Test all remotes to ensure they are working correctly. If your remote has a trunk/hatch release button, you may need to hold it down for a few seconds to activate the trunk/hatch.
