2008 GMC Yukon Key Fob Programming: Step-by-Step Guide

Having trouble with your 2008 GMC Yukon key fob? Whether you’ve purchased a new replacement or your existing remote has stopped working, programming it yourself can save you time and money. This guide provides straightforward instructions for programming your 2008 GMC Yukon key fob, ensuring you regain seamless access to your vehicle. There are two procedures based on whether your Yukon is equipped with a Driver Information Center (DIC). Let’s find the right method for you.

Procedure 1: For Yukon Models with Driver Information Center (DIC)

Does your 2008 GMC Yukon have a Driver Information Center? This system features buttons on your steering wheel, including one marked with an “i” symbol. If so, follow these steps to program your key fob:

  1. Ignition On (Engine Off): Insert your key into the ignition. Turn the key to the “ON” position. Make sure you do not start the engine.

  2. Access Relearn Remote Key Menu: Press the Information button on your steering wheel repeatedly. Cycle through the menu options until you see “Relearn Remote Key” displayed on the DIC screen.

  3. Initiate Learning Mode: Once “Relearn Remote Key” is displayed, press and hold the set/reset button (this button usually has a checkmark symbol). Continue holding until the DIC screen shows “Remote Key Learning Active”. The vehicle is now in programming mode, ready to learn your key fob signal.

  4. Program the Remote: Immediately press and hold both the Lock and Unlock buttons simultaneously on the key fob you are programming. Hold these buttons until the vehicle’s chime sounds twice. This chime confirms that the key fob has been successfully programmed.

  5. Program Additional Remotes (If Necessary): If you have additional key fobs (new or existing) that you want to work with your 2008 GMC Yukon, repeat step 4 immediately for each remote. It’s crucial to program all desired remotes in this step, as the system may erase previously programmed remotes.

  6. Exit Programming Mode: Turn the ignition key to the “OFF” position. This will exit the key fob programming mode. Test all programmed key fobs to ensure they are working correctly.

Procedure 2: For Yukon Models Without Driver Information Center

If your 2008 GMC Yukon does not have the Driver Information Center with steering wheel controls, use this procedure:

  1. Ignition On (Engine Off): Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position, without starting the engine.

  2. Access Relearn Remote Key Menu: Press and release the trip odometer reset button located on the instrument panel cluster repeatedly. Keep pressing until “Relearn Remote Key” is displayed in the instrument panel.

  3. Initiate Learning Mode: Press and hold the trip odometer reset button until “Remote Key Learning Active” appears on the display. The vehicle is now ready to learn the key fob signal.

  4. Program the Remote: Press and hold the Lock and Unlock buttons at the same time on the key fob you are programming. Keep holding them until the vehicle chimes, indicating successful programming.

  5. Program Additional Remotes (If Needed): If you have more key fobs to program, immediately repeat step 4 for each additional remote. Remember to program all remotes you want to use at this time.

  6. Exit Programming Mode: Turn the ignition key to the “OFF” position to exit the programming sequence. Test each key fob to confirm successful programming.

Important Note: Program All Remotes

If you are programming new key fobs or reprogramming existing ones, it is essential to program all of your remotes during the same programming session. Failure to do so may result in previously programmed remotes no longer working with your vehicle. By following these procedures, you should be able to easily program your 2008 GMC Yukon key fobs and enjoy the convenience of remote keyless entry once again.
