2012 Buick Regal Key Fob Not Detected? Troubleshooting Guide

Experiencing the frustration of your 2012 Buick Regal key fob not being detected? It’s a common issue that can leave you stranded or struggling to start your vehicle. This guide will walk you through understanding why your key fob might not be working and how to potentially resolve the problem yourself.

One of the most frequent culprits behind a “Key Fob Not Detected” message in your Buick Regal is a low or dead battery in the key fob itself. Like any battery, key fob batteries weaken over time, and this could be the simple fix you need. Another possibility is signal interference. Just like your garage door opener or other remote devices, key fobs rely on radio signals. If there’s strong interference in the area, your car might not be able to communicate with your key fob effectively.

Fortunately, Buick has anticipated this issue and provided a backup solution. If your 2012 Regal displays “NO REMOTE DETECTED” or “NO REMOTE KEY WAS DETECTED PLACE KEY IN TRANSMITTER POCKET THEN START YOUR VEHICLE”, don’t panic. Your vehicle is guiding you on how to start it. You’ll need to utilize the transmitter pocket located in your center console cupholder.

Here’s how to reprogram your key fob if needed, or if you’ve replaced the battery and are still facing issues:

  1. Locate the Transmitter Pocket: Remove the cupholder liner to access the transmitter pocket inside.
  2. Prepare for Programming: Insert your physical vehicle key (from the new transmitter) into the driver’s side door lock cylinder. Turn the key counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. The Driver Information Center (DIC) should display “READY FOR REMOTE #2, 3, 4 or 5”.
  3. Place the Key Fob in the Pocket: Put the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket, ensuring the buttons are facing upwards.
  4. Start the Vehicle: Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. Once the transmitter is successfully learned, the DIC will indicate it’s ready for the next transmitter programming.
  5. Program Additional Fobs (Optional): Remove the transmitter, press any button on it to finalize. To program more key fobs, repeat steps 3-5.
  6. Exit Programming Mode: After programming all desired key fobs, press and hold the ignition button for about 12 seconds to exit the programming mode. Reinstall the rubber cup liner.

By following these steps, you can troubleshoot and potentially resolve the “2012 Buick Regal Key Fob Not Detected” issue. Remember to check your key fob battery first, as this is often the simplest solution. If reprogramming is necessary, the process is straightforward using your vehicle’s built-in system.
