Changing Your 2020 Nissan Altima Key Fob Battery

Changing the battery in your 2020 Nissan Altima key fob is easier than you might think. You won’t need to be a mechanic to do this! However, because you’re dealing with small electronic components, it’s a good idea to wear gloves to protect the key fob’s internal circuitry from static and oils from your skin. The battery you’ll need is a CR2032 3V battery, a common and inexpensive type. You can find these at most drugstores, supermarkets, and online retailers for just a few dollars. Besides the new battery, you’ll only need a small flathead screwdriver.

  • Start by flipping your Nissan key fob to the back.
  • Locate the small slider or release button designed to unlock the emergency key.
  • Slide or press the release and remove the emergency key from the fob.
  • Examine the top edge of the key fob where the emergency key was located. You’ll see a small notch or opening between the front and back halves of the fob casing.
  • Insert the tip of your flathead screwdriver into this notch.
  • Gently twist the screwdriver. This will apply leverage and begin to separate the two halves of the key fob.
  • Continue twisting gently until the front and back halves of the fob come apart completely.
  • With the back half of the key fob removed, you will see the old CR2032 3V battery.
  • Use the flathead screwdriver again, this time to carefully pry the old battery out of its housing.
  • Take your new CR2032 3V battery and insert it into the battery compartment. Ensure the + (positive) side of the battery is facing down when you place it in.
  • Press down gently on the new battery until it clicks securely into place.
  • Carefully align the front and back halves of the key fob casing.
  • Press the two halves firmly together until they snap back into place. You should hear a click confirming they are securely closed.
  • Slide the emergency key back into its slot until it is fully inserted.
  • If there was a slider to secure the emergency key, move it back to its original locked position.

Now your 2020 Nissan Altima key fob should be powered up and ready to use! Test the buttons to ensure they are working correctly.
