Revitalize Your GMC Acadia Key Fob with a New Cover

Is your GMC Acadia key fob looking a little worse for wear? Perhaps it’s sticky, cracked, or the rubber is peeling off, making it unpleasant to use. Many GMC Acadia owners encounter this issue over time. Instead of replacing the entire key fob, which can be costly and require reprogramming, a simple and effective solution is to replace just the key fob cover.

This was exactly the situation I faced with a recently acquired Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) 2018 GMC Terrain Denali (more on that later!). One of the key fobs was in rough shape – covered in a mysterious sticky residue and with noticeable wear on the rubber parts. After some cleaning, it became functional, but the worn condition was still bothersome. The second key fob, thankfully, was in pristine, brand-new condition. This made me wonder if the dealership provided a new fob for the CPO certification and repurposed the older, worn one.

Determined to improve the condition of the worn key fob, I explored online options for a replacement cover. My goal was to find an aftermarket key fob cover that closely resembled the original design and offered a cost-effective solution. After some searching, I found a vendor on eBay offering covers that looked remarkably similar to the OEM version.

As you can see in the images, the aftermarket cover is visually very close to the original. The subtle differences include a slightly less “gummy” rubber texture and a plain plastic backing without the “GMC” logo. However, for the price, these minor cosmetic differences are negligible.

To achieve the best result, I decided to utilize the aftermarket front cover with the original OEM key fob components. This simple swap worked perfectly! By using the new aftermarket front cover with the original backing and internal electronics, I effectively refreshed the appearance and feel of my key fob without compromising functionality or spending a fortune on a complete replacement.

The key fob cover I purchased was listed for around $15, but I applied a coupon code, bringing the price down to just $10. There are even more budget-friendly options available for around $8 (plus shipping) if you are willing to accept a slightly less OEM-like appearance.

Replacing your GMC Acadia key fob cover is a straightforward and economical way to restore its look and feel. If your key fob is showing signs of wear and tear, consider this DIY fix before opting for a more expensive full replacement. Hopefully, this experience helps other GMC Acadia owners looking for a solution to their worn key fob covers.
