I’m facing frustration trying to program a spare key fob for my 2012 Lexus RX 350 that I bought on eBay. I’ve already visited multiple locksmiths hoping to get this sorted out, but haven’t had any luck. Each locksmith quoted me around $70-85 for the programming service, which seemed reasonable, especially since I wasn’t charged any service call fees as I drove to their locations.
After the first eBay key fob failed to program, I returned it to the seller. They were good enough to send a replacement, but unfortunately, this second key fob also couldn’t be programmed by two different locksmiths. At this point, I considered tackling the programming myself using TechStream software and YouTube tutorials. Honestly, for around $70, having a professional locksmith handle it seemed like the easier option. And since my original key fob is still working perfectly, it’s not an urgent issue.
However, now I’m really wondering if I’m getting the correct part from eBay. Almost all eBay sellers claim their fobs are programmable for my vehicle. But if experienced locksmiths can’t program them, my confidence in being able to do it myself with Techstream is pretty low.
To try and figure out what’s going wrong, I’ve listed all the identifying numbers and codes I could find on both my original, working key fob and the eBay replacement fob. The back casings of both fobs are identical, showing:
- FCC ID: HYQ14ACX
- IC: 1551A-14ACX
- COFETEL RLVDE1208-0265
But when I opened up the fobs, I noticed some internal differences:
Internal Component Markings:
-
Square Box above Battery Compartment:
- Original Fob: 2026 11091VD
- eBay Fob: 2026 100422VA
-
GNE:
- Original Fob GNE: 271451-5290 4/12
- eBay Fob GNE: 271451-5290 10/12
-
Ti Chip:
- Original Fob Ti Chip: 37143AIDN 051 G4 TCYE3 1
- eBay Fob Ti Chip: 37143AIDN 015 G4 TC2F7 1
-
Chip Next to Tail Lift Button:
- Original Fob Chip: 3143A EQ1Y4
- eBay Fob Chip: 3143A EQ03G
Could these internal differences be the reason why the eBay purchased 2012 Lexus Rx 350 Key Fob Replacement is failing to program? Any guidance on identifying the correct key fob part number or understanding these component variations would be greatly appreciated.
