2004 BMW Key Fob Not Working: Troubleshooting and Potential Causes

I’m experiencing issues with my 2004 Bmw Key Fob and hoping to get some advice. I’ve tried the online reactivation methods for the key fob several times, but haven’t had any success getting it to communicate with my vehicle.

Recently, I took my BMW to a service center for some maintenance and asked them to look into the key fob problem. Unfortunately, they were also unable to get the key fobs to work with my car. Interestingly, the service writer mentioned they tested both of my key fobs on an older BMW model they had, and they were able to communicate with that older vehicle. They didn’t have time to diagnose the issue specifically for my car at that visit.

Adding to the complexity, I recently had a separate incident where my car displayed numerous error codes and broke down. It turned out the alternator had failed and wasn’t charging the battery. The service center replaced both the alternator and the battery, as the old battery was also deemed to be faulty. Could this alternator and battery failure be related to my key fob communication problems?

While researching online, I came across a YouTube video suggesting that issues with the diversity antenna could cause key fob problems, especially in conjunction with electrical faults. Is it possible that the diversity antenna was damaged due to the electrical issues I experienced with the alternator and battery?

I apologize for the somewhat scattered description, but I’m trying to consider all potential connections between these issues to understand why my 2004 BMW key fob is not working. Any insights or suggestions on where to investigate further would be greatly appreciated.
