I recently purchased a 2009 Lexus IS250 and it only came with a single key fob. To have a spare, I ordered two new key fobs online. One was a smart card type from Sewell Parts, and the other, a standard key fob, was from eBay. Both were advertised as new, although the eBay one seemed possibly used upon arrival.
Hoping to get them programmed and also to erase any lost keys from the system for security, I visited a Lexus dealership in Toronto. After waiting, I was informed that they couldn’t program either of the key fobs. The dealership claimed both appeared to be used and stated that used key fobs cannot be programmed to a different vehicle. However, based on online research, I understood this wasn’t necessarily true. Surprisingly, they didn’t charge me for the attempt, a stark contrast to my past experiences with BMW dealerships.
When I inquired about locksmith services, several I contacted stated they were also unable to program used Lexus keys. This leaves me wondering if anyone knows of a locksmith in the Toronto area that has the capability to program used key fobs for a 2009 Lexus IS250. Is dealership programming the only option for used Lexus key fobs, or are there specialized locksmiths who can handle this? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
