Replacing Your 2013 Nissan Key Fob Battery
Changing the battery in your Nissan key fob, especially for models around 2013, is a straightforward process. While it’s not complicated, remember that key fobs contain delicate electronics. To protect your key fob during the battery replacement, it’s a good idea to use gloves, like latex or nitrile. The battery you’ll need is a CR2032 3V battery, widely available in multipacks for a low cost. You’ll also need a small flathead screwdriver.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to get your 2013 Nissan key fob working again:
- Turn the Key Fob Over: Flip your Nissan key fob to the back side to begin.
- Release the Emergency Key: Locate the small slider or button designed to release the mechanical emergency key. Slide or press it to unlock and remove the emergency key from the fob.
- Find the Notch: Look closely at the top of the key fob where you removed the emergency key. You’ll see a small notch or opening between the front and back halves of the fob casing.
- Insert the Screwdriver: Carefully insert the tip of your small flathead screwdriver into this notch.
- Open the Fob Casing: Gently twist the screwdriver. This should separate the front and back halves of the key fob, exposing the inside components.
- Locate the Old Battery: Inside the back half of the fob, you’ll find the old, dead CR2032 3V battery. It’s usually held in place by small clips.

- Remove the Dead Battery: Use the flathead screwdriver to gently pry out the old battery. Be careful not to damage the surrounding components.
- Insert the New Battery: Take your new CR2032 3V battery and insert it into the battery compartment. Make sure the + side of the battery is facing down when you place it in.
- Click the Battery into Place: Press down on the new battery until it clicks securely into its position.
- Reassemble the Fob: Carefully align the front and back halves of the key fob casing.
- Snap the Casing Closed: Squeeze the two halves of the fob firmly together until they snap back into place, closing the casing completely. You should hear a click sound.
- Replace the Emergency Key: Slide the emergency key back into its slot in the key fob until it clicks and is securely held.
- Secure the Emergency Key: If there was a slider to release the emergency key, make sure to move it back into its original position to secure the key.
