Enable Central Locking Acoustic Confirmation on Your Car Using OBD11

Many modern vehicles offer a feature that provides an audible confirmation when you lock or unlock your car using the central locking system. This acoustic feedback, often a beep or chirp, can be incredibly useful, assuring you that your vehicle is securely locked without needing to visually check. If you’re looking to activate or customize this feature on your car, particularly a VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) vehicle, using an OBD11 device offers a direct and reliable method, bypassing potentially problematic or opaque third-party apps.

This guide will walk you through the process of enabling or adjusting the Central Locking Acoustic Confirmation on your car using OBD11. This method involves directly accessing and modifying your car’s control modules, offering transparency and control over the changes made to your vehicle’s settings. There are two main parts to this procedure: the OBD11 procedure and the in-car procedure.

OBD11 Procedure: Modifying Central Electrics Module

This part focuses on using your OBD11 device to access and modify the necessary settings within your car’s central electrics module.

  1. Connect to the Central Electrics Module: Begin by plugging your OBD11 device into your car’s OBD-II port. Open the OBD11 app on your smartphone or device and establish a connection to your vehicle. Navigate to and select the Central Electrics module, which is typically located at address Hex09.

  2. Gain Security Access: To make changes to the control module, you’ll need to gain security access. Select Security access within the Central Electrics module menu and enter the security code 31347. This code unlocks the module for adaptation changes.

  3. Access Adaptation Channels: After gaining security access, go to Adaptations. In the adaptation menu, use the search function to find Acknowledgement signals. This will filter the list to show the relevant channels for acoustic confirmation.

  4. Configure Unlock Acoustic Signal: Locate the channel labeled Akustische Rueckmeldung entriegeln. If you want an audible signal (typically two beeps) when the car is unlocked, select active. Otherwise, leave it as not active to disable the unlock sound.

  5. Configure Lock Acoustic Signal: Find the channel Akustische Rueckmeldung verriegeln. To enable an acoustic signal (usually one beep) when the car is locked, select active. To disable the lock sound, leave it as not active.

  6. Activate Global Acoustic Feedback: Select active for the Akustische Rueckmeldung global channel. This setting is often necessary for the lock and unlock confirmations to function correctly.

  7. Set Acoustic Signal Duration: For the channel Dauer der Akustischen Rueckmeldung vom Einfachhorn, you can choose the duration of the beep sound. Select kurtz for a short sound or normal for a slightly longer sound. The difference is often subtle.

  8. Enable In-Car Menu Control: Activate the Menuesteuerung akustische Rueckmeldung channel by selecting active. This crucial step adds an ON/OFF switch for the acoustic confirmation feature to your car’s infotainment menu, allowing for easy adjustments later (see “In-car Procedure” below).

  9. Configure Siren Usage (If Applicable): If your car is equipped with an anti-theft alarm siren, locate Akustische Rueckmeldung Signalhorn. If you want to use the native car horn for the lock/unlock acoustic signal (common and often simpler), select active. If you prefer not to use the siren for this confirmation (or if you don’t have one), select not active.

  10. Finalize OBD11 Procedure: Once you have configured all the desired adaptation channels, ensure you confirm each change by clicking the green circled tick at the bottom of the OBD11 app screen. After all changes are saved, shut down the OBD11 software, disconnect the OBD11 dongle from your car, and cycle the ignition (turn the car off and then on again). Proceed to the “In-car Procedure” to complete the setup.

In-car Procedure: Activating via Infotainment System

After completing the OBD11 coding, the final step is to activate the acoustic confirmation feature through your car’s infotainment system, thanks to enabling the “Menuesteuerung akustische Rueckmeldung” in the OBD11 procedure.

  1. Access Car Settings Menu: Press the CAR button on the physical button panel around your infotainment screen.

  2. Navigate to Setup: On the infotainment screen, select SETUP. This is usually located at the bottom right corner and may be represented by a gear icon.

  3. Open Opening & Closing Settings: Within the Setup menu, find and select the Opening & closing panel.

  4. Activate Acoustic Confirmation: In the “Opening & closing” settings, you should now see an Acoustic confirmation checkbox. Place a tick in this box to turn the acoustic feedback feature ON. You can toggle this switch ON or OFF at any time through this in-car menu to enable or disable the lock/unlock beeps as desired.

By following these OBD11 and in-car procedures, you can easily enable or customize the central locking acoustic confirmation on your vehicle, providing convenient audible feedback every time you lock or unlock your car. This direct coding method ensures you have control over the changes made to your car’s system, offering a transparent alternative to less direct app-based solutions.
