How to Change Battery in GMC Acadia Key Fob

Is your GMC Acadia key fob suddenly not working? Before you panic, the most likely culprit is a dead battery. Luckily, replacing the battery in your GMC Acadia key fob is a straightforward process you can easily handle yourself. Most GMC key fobs utilize a common and readily available 3-volt CR2032 battery, designed to last for several years. When the time comes for a replacement, you won’t need special tools or expertise. This guide will walk you through each step, ensuring you can quickly get your key fob back in working order with just a few simple steps.

Step-by-Step Guide to Replacing Your GMC Acadia Key Fob Battery

Changing the battery in your GMC Acadia key fob is a simple task that requires minimal tools. Here’s how to do it:

1. Gather Your Tools and New Battery:

Before you begin, you’ll need just two things:

  • A small flathead screwdriver.
  • A new CR2032 battery. You can purchase these batteries at most drugstores, grocery stores, hardware stores, and online retailers.

2. Open the GMC Key Fob Casing:

Locate the small seam on the back of your GMC Acadia key fob. Gently insert the tip of your flathead screwdriver into this seam. Apply a small amount of pressure and twist the screwdriver to carefully pry the back panel of the key fob open. Avoid using excessive force to prevent damaging the casing. The panel should pop off relatively easily.

3. Remove and Replace the Old Battery:

Once the key fob is open, you’ll see the CR2032 battery. Take note of which side of the battery is facing up before removing it. Typically, the positive (+) side is facing upwards. Carefully remove the old battery. Insert the new CR2032 battery, ensuring the positive (+) side is facing the same direction as the old battery was.

4. Close the Key Fob:

After the new battery is securely in place, carefully align the two halves of the key fob casing. Press them firmly together until they snap back into place, ensuring the key fob is completely closed.

What to Do If Your Key Fob Still Doesn’t Work

In the vast majority of cases, replacing the battery will solve the issue of a non-functioning GMC Acadia key fob. However, if you’ve installed a new battery and your key fob is still unresponsive, there might be another underlying issue.
