How to Reset Your Infiniti Key Fob: A Simple Guide

Have you ever found yourself locked out of your Infiniti because your key fob stopped working? Or maybe you purchased a new key fob and need to synchronize it with your vehicle? Resetting your Infiniti key fob can often resolve these issues, saving you a trip to the dealership. This guide provides a straightforward, step-by-step process to reset your Infiniti key fob and regain control of your car’s keyless entry system.

Step-by-Step Guide to Resetting Your Infiniti Key Fob

Before you begin, ensure you have your Infiniti key and all key fobs you wish to program. Follow these instructions carefully to successfully reset your Infiniti key fob:

Step 1: Prepare Your Infiniti for Programming

The first step is to get your Infiniti ready for the key fob programming sequence.

  1. Close and Lock All Doors: Make sure all doors, including the trunk or hatch, are completely closed. Then, lock all doors using the power lock switch. This ensures the system is in the correct starting state for programming.

Step 2: Initiate the Key Fob Programming Mode

This step involves a specific key insertion and removal sequence to put your Infiniti into programming mode.

  1. Insert and Remove the Key Repeatedly: Take your Infiniti key and insert it into the ignition cylinder, then remove it completely. Repeat this insert and remove action more than six times within a 10-second timeframe. Speed is not crucial, but a consistent rhythm is important.

NOTE: Ensure the key is fully withdrawn from the ignition cylinder each time.

NOTE: Do not rush this step. Successful completion of this step is indicated by the hazard warning lamps flashing.

  2. Confirmation Flash: If you have correctly completed step 2, the hazard warning lamps will flash. Additionally, the side marker lights, tail lights, license plate lights, and interior lights will flash twice. This visual confirmation indicates that your Infiniti has entered key fob programming mode.

Step 3: Enter the New Key Fob ID Code

Now that your Infiniti is in programming mode, you need to register the new key fob ID.

  1. Turn Ignition to “ACC”: Insert the key into the ignition cylinder and turn the ignition switch to the “ACC” (Accessory) position. Do not start the engine. At this point, any previously stored key fob ID codes are erased, and the system is ready to learn new codes.

  2. Press a Button on the New Remote: Take the key fob you want to program and press any button on it once.

NOTE: Press the button only ONCE. Pressing it more than once can cause the programming to fail.

  3. Programming Confirmation: If the programming is successful, the hazard warning lamps will flash. Again, the side marker lights, tail lights, license plate lights, and interior lights will flash twice to confirm successful programming.

Step 4: Program Additional Key Fobs (Optional)

If you have more than one key fob to program, follow this step. If you only have one key fob, skip to Step 5.

  1. Activate Additional ID Code Entry: With the driver’s door still locked, use the power door lock/unlock switch (usually located on the power window master switch panel on the driver’s door) to unlock the doors and then lock them again. This action prepares the system to learn the next key fob ID.

  2. Repeat Step 3 for Each Additional Fob: Repeat the process described in Step 3 for each additional key fob you need to program. Remember to press a button on each new remote controller only once.

NOTE: You can program up to four key fobs in total. Attempts to program more than four will be ignored by the system.

Step 5: Finalize the Programming Sequence

The final steps lock in the programming and exit programming mode.

  1. Remove Key from Ignition: Turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position and remove the key from the ignition cylinder.

  2. Unlock and Open Driver’s Door: Unlock the driver’s side door, open the driver’s side door, and then close the door.

(END)

After completing these steps, your Infiniti key fob should be reset and programmed. Test all programmed key fobs to ensure they are working correctly by locking and unlocking the doors and testing other functions like the panic button if available.

If you encounter difficulties or the programming is unsuccessful, double-check each step and ensure you are following the instructions precisely. If issues persist, consulting your Infiniti owner’s manual or contacting a qualified automotive locksmith or Infiniti dealership for assistance may be necessary.
