Affordable Remote Start for Your Infiniti Q50: Programming an Aftermarket Key Fob

Many Infiniti Q50 owners desire the convenience of remote start, but the cost of dealership key fobs and programming can be prohibitive. If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly solution to get remote start on your Infiniti Q50, this guide shares a successful experience using an aftermarket key fob.

One Infiniti Q50 owner successfully programmed aftermarket remote start key fobs for their 2018 model, which initially did not come equipped with remote start. Bypassing the dealership, they turned to eBay and purchased a pair of aftermarket fobs from the seller ‘remotesupermarket’. The eBay listing title was “2 Remote For 2016 2017 2018 Infiniti Q50 Keyless Entry Car Key Fob”. These fobs, identified by Manufacturer Part Number RSM568 for KR5S180144014; 7812D-S180204 IC20, and UPC 704115891651, were priced at $80 for two. While they lack the Infiniti logo, the owner planned to use leather cases, making this a non-issue.

Upon receiving the key fobs within a week, described as similar in quality and weight to the original Infiniti fob, the next step was programming. Many auto locksmiths are hesitant to work with Infiniti vehicles, but persistence paid off. A local locksmith was found who quoted $75 to program both fobs for a 2017 Q50. Importantly, this price was for both fobs, a significant saving compared to dealership rates.

The locksmith completed the programming in approximately 20 minutes. Initially, there was a concern as the remote start feature seemed non-functional. However, after ensuring that ‘remote start’ was enabled in the vehicle settings and using the correct sequence – pressing the lock button first, followed by the remote start button within 5 seconds – the remote start successfully activated.

In total, two new remote start key fobs were programmed for just $155, a considerable saving over dealership costs. This experience suggests that owners of 2016-2018 Infiniti Q50 models looking to add remote start or replace key fobs can explore aftermarket options and local locksmiths to avoid high dealer fees. Keep in mind that results may vary (YMMV), but this successful case offers a promising and cost-effective alternative.
