My Mercedes key fob has stopped working after I changed the battery, and I’m hoping someone can offer some advice. The key I usually use stopped functioning a while back, and I finally got around to replacing the battery. However, now the key is completely unresponsive.
I contacted a Mercedes dealership, and they told me that because I waited too long to change the battery, the key now needs to be reprogrammed. They quoted me a price of £100 for this service. I’ve tested the key, and it seems to be emitting a signal – I used the camera trick to see the infrared light flashing, and it’s rapid and strong, so the key itself seems to be transmitting.
I then spoke with a garage that specializes in Mercedes vehicles, and they gave me a set of reprogramming instructions. I’ve also found these same instructions online, often listed on sites like eBay:
- Turn the key to position 2 in the ignition lock. Then turn the key to position 0 and remove it.
- Within 60 seconds, press and hold the LOCK button.
- While holding the LOCK button, press the UNLOCK button 5 times.
- Check if the key functions correctly.
- If it still doesn’t work, repeat the procedure.
Unfortunately, this procedure is where I’m running into a significant problem. Because the key is not working at all, it won’t turn in the ignition slot. This means I can’t even get to position 2 to begin the reprogramming process.
I also read in another online forum that leaving the key in the ignition for 90 minutes might resolve the issue. I’m currently trying this method, hoping it might work as a solution to get my Mercedes key fob functioning again.
Does anyone have any further recommendations or advice on how to get my main Key Fob Mercedes working again? I would really appreciate any help to get my primary key back in operation so I have two working keys once more. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
