2006 Infiniti M35 Key Fob Not Working: Troubleshooting and Potential Issues

My 2006 Infiniti M35 key fob has stopped working, and it’s causing a major headache. Initially, I only had one key fob and decided to get a backup. I purchased a cheaper, aftermarket key fob online hoping to save some money. Taking both fobs to my local Nissan dealer for programming (the Infiniti dealership is quite a distance away), I ran into unexpected problems.

During the programming attempt at the Nissan dealership, something went wrong. Not only did they fail to program the new aftermarket key fob, but they also managed to disable my original, working key fob! Now, my original key fob only works when inserted directly into the key holder slot in the dashboard. The remote unlock buttons and trunk opener are completely unresponsive. To get into my car, I have to use the valet key to manually unlock the door. Then, to start the engine, I have to insert the key fob into the slot. This is incredibly inconvenient and defeats the purpose of having a key fob in the first place.

Frustrated, I decided to purchase a genuine Infiniti key fob directly from the Infiniti dealership, thinking a higher quality fob would solve the problem. Returning to the same Nissan dealership, I hoped for a better outcome. Unfortunately, they were unable to program the new, genuine Infiniti key fob as well. I am still stuck with the original fob only partially working, requiring the valet key for entry and insertion into the dash to start the car. None of the remote functions work at all.

The Nissan dealer advised me to bring the car back and leave it for a full day for further diagnosis, but I wanted to do some research beforehand. From my research, I suspect the issue might be a malfunction of the intelligent key unit (part number 285E1-EH10C). Could it be that the intelligent key unit is no longer recognizing the signals from the remote keyless entry receiver (part number 28595-EH100)? Is this a common problem with the 2006 Infiniti M35, and is replacing the intelligent key unit likely to resolve the issue of my 2006 Infiniti M35 Key Fob Not Working? Any advice on troubleshooting this 2006 Infiniti M35 key fob problem would be greatly appreciated before I potentially invest in replacing expensive components.
