2011 Buick Regal Key Fob Programming: Your DIY Guide

Do you need to program a key fob for your 2011 Buick Regal? Losing a key fob or needing an extra one is a common issue for car owners. Fortunately, programming a new key fob for your 2011 Buick Regal can often be done yourself, saving you a trip to the dealership. This guide provides step-by-step instructions for programming your 2011 Buick Regal key fob, whether you have a regular ignition or a push-button start system.

For 2011 Buick Regal Models with Regular Ignition

If your 2011 Buick Regal uses a standard key ignition, and you already have one working programmed key, follow these simple steps to program a new key fob. Remember, this procedure is for adding keys and will not erase any previously programmed keys. Ensure the new key is properly cut before you begin.

  1. Insert your existing, working key into the ignition and start the engine.
  2. Once the engine is running, turn the ignition off and remove the key.
  3. Within 10 seconds of removing the working key, insert the new, unprogrammed key into the ignition and turn it to the “on” position (without starting the engine).
  4. Wait for the security light on your dashboard to turn off. This indicates successful programming. If your vehicle doesn’t have a security light, wait for approximately 10 minutes and 45 seconds to ensure the key is programmed.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 if you need to program additional keys.

For 2011 Buick Regal Models with Push Button Ignition

Programming a key fob for a 2011 Buick Regal with push-button ignition varies depending on whether you have a working transmitter already.

Programming with a Working Transmitter

If you currently have at least one functioning transmitter (proximity key) for your 2011 Buick Regal, you can program a new transmitter by following these steps. Make sure all transmitters you wish to program (both new and existing) are with you and the vehicle is turned off. The key blade for the new transmitter should be cut before starting this procedure.

  1. Place the recognized, working transmitter in the cupholder.
  2. Insert the new, unprogrammed key blade into the door lock cylinder located on the outside of the driver’s side door. Turn the key to the unlock position five times within ten seconds. The Driver Information Center (DIC) should display “Ready For Remote #2, 3, 4, or 5.”
  3. Place the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket. This pocket is located inside the center console storage area, underneath the cupholder. You may need to pull out the cupholder to access it.
  4. Press the ignition button. Once the transmitter is successfully programmed, the DIC display will indicate it’s ready to program the next transmitter.
  5. Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket and press the unlock button on the transmitter. To program additional transmitters, repeat steps 3 through 5. When you have programmed all desired transmitters, press and hold the ignition button for 5 seconds to exit the programming mode.

Programming Without a Working Transmitter

If you have lost all working transmitters for your 2011 Buick Regal, you will need to follow a more extended procedure, which takes approximately 30 minutes. Ensure the vehicle is off and all transmitters you want to program are present. The key blade for each new transmitter must be cut beforehand. It’s also recommended to connect your vehicle to a power source using jumper cables during this process, as the vehicle’s battery voltage may decrease.

  1. Insert the new key blade into the key lock cylinder on the driver’s door and turn it to the unlock position five times within ten seconds. The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display “Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait.”
  2. Wait for ten minutes until the DIC display changes to “Press Engine Start Button To Learn.” Then, press the ignition button. The DIC will again show “Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait.”
  3. Repeat step 2 two additional times. After the third time, any previously programmed transmitters will no longer work with your vehicle. The DIC should now display “Ready For Remote #1.”
  4. Place the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket located in the center console under the cupholder.
  5. Press the ignition button. Once the transmitter is learned, the DIC display will indicate it is ready to program the next transmitter.
  6. Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket and press the unlock button. To program additional transmitters, repeat steps 4 through 6. After programming all desired transmitters, press and hold the ignition button for 5 seconds to exit the programming mode.

Important Note: Your 2011 Buick Regal can have up to five transmitters programmed to it. By following these instructions, you should be able to program your new 2011 Buick Regal key fob efficiently.
