Lost or need an extra key fob for your 2017 Chevy Cruze? The convenience of a key fob is undeniable, and fortunately, programming a new one might be easier than you think. As experts in auto key programming at keyfobprog.com, we’re here to guide you through the process. This guide provides step-by-step instructions for programming your 2017 Chevy Cruze key fob, whether you have existing working fobs or not.
Programming with Two Working Smart Keys
If you currently have two functioning smart keys for your Chevy Cruze, the programming process is relatively straightforward and can be completed in minutes. Ensure your vehicle is turned off and you have all key fobs – both working and new – with you before beginning.
-
Begin by removing the emergency key blade from one of your working smart keys.
-
Place both of your working smart keys into the vehicle’s cupholder.
-
Locate the driver’s side door lock cylinder. You may need to remove a cap on the door handle to access it on some models. Insert the emergency key blade into the lock cylinder. Turn the key counterclockwise (towards the unlock position) five times in quick succession within a 10-second timeframe.
-
Observe the Driver Information Center (DIC) display in your dashboard. It should display the message “READY FOR REMOTE # 2, 3, 4, etc”. This indicates the vehicle is in programming mode and ready to learn a new key fob.
-
Take the new, unprogrammed smart key and place it into the transmitter pocket. For Chevy Cruze vehicles, this pocket is located in the front cupholder.
-
Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. When the vehicle successfully recognizes the new smart key, the DIC will update to show it is ready for the next key fob to be programmed.
-
Remove the programmed smart key from the transmitter pocket. Press either the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the newly programmed remote to confirm it’s working.
-
If you have additional key fobs to program, repeat steps 5-7.
-
Once you have programmed all desired key fobs, exit programming mode by pressing and holding the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds.
Programming Without Two Working Smart Keys
What if you only have one working key fob, or worse, none at all? Don’t worry, you can still program a new key fob for your 2017 Chevy Cruze yourself, although the process is a bit more time-consuming, taking around 30 minutes. Please note that DIY programming for this method is not available in Canada.
Before you begin, ensure the vehicle is off and gather all key fobs (working and new). If you don’t have any existing key fobs, you’ll need to have the emergency key blade in your new smart key cut by a locksmith before proceeding with these steps.
-
Remove the emergency key blade from your existing or new smart key.
-
Insert the emergency key blade into the driver door lock cylinder. Turn the key counterclockwise to the unlock position five times within 10 seconds. Again, you might need to remove the door handle cap to access the lock cylinder on some models.
-
Watch the DIC display. It will initially show “READY FOR REMOTE # 2, 3, 4, etc”. Now, you need to wait for 10 minutes. After this wait, the DIC display will change to “PRESS ENGINE START BUTTON TO LEARN”. Once you see this message, press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The DIC will then display “REMOTE LEARN PENDING, PLEASE WAIT”.
-
Repeat step 3 two more times. This means you will wait for 10 minutes, press the start button, wait for the “pending” message, and do this a total of three times. After the third repetition, any previously programmed key fobs will be erased from the vehicle’s memory for security reasons. The DIC display should now indicate “READY FOR REMOTE # 1”.
-
Place the new smart key into the transmitter pocket (front cupholder for Chevy Cruze).
-
Press the ENGINE START/STOP button. The DIC will signal when the smart key is recognized and ready for the next key fob programming.
-
Remove the smart key from the transmitter pocket and press the LOCK or UNLOCK button on the smart key to finalize the programming for that fob.
-
To program any additional key fobs, repeat steps 6-8.
-
When you have programmed all your new key fobs, press and hold the ENGINE START/STOP button for approximately 12 seconds to exit the programming mode.
By following these instructions, you can successfully program a new key fob for your 2017 Chevy Cruze and regain full access and convenience. Always remember to consult your vehicle’s owner’s manual for the most accurate and vehicle-specific instructions.
